Pill Cam
  • The new technology of PILLCAM is now available at Glen Iris Private.
  • This is a revolutionary noninvasive technique to visualise the GI tract. In its current version, views are mainly obtained from the small intestine. It's primary value is to diagnose causes of presumed small bowel blood loss. It is also useful in diagnosing Crohn's disease of the small intestine. Medicare only recognises the former indication.
  • The procedure involves swallowing a capsule in the morning, and having a monitor attached to the abdominal wall while the patient goes home. The monitor is removed 8 hours later. The Pill Cam device is then passed naturally and flushed away. The images obtained are stored in the monitoring equipment, downloaded to a computer and viewed by an experienced reporter. Dr. Will Kemp has agreed to report these studies, and he has considerable experience of this tool.
